Shades in Honey is a mottled print quilting cotton from Riley Blake Designs, made from 100% cotton. The mottling is the point: unlike a flat solid, the tonal variation gives the surface something to look at while staying quiet enough to sit behind a busier print. On a warm gold like Honey the variation is particularly forgiving — it keeps the color from reading as flat yellow, and gives it the depth that lets a golden tone work as a background instead of shouting from one.
The fabric works three ways in a project. As a background it gives piecing room to breathe, and a warm gold is a workhorse in autumn palettes, harvest and sunflower projects, and anywhere you want light without the starkness of cream. As binding it warms an edge rather than framing it hard. And on its own it holds as a feature fabric when the construction is doing the visual work. Beyond quilting, it suits bag linings, pouches and table linens. This listing is fabric only: no pattern, batting, thread or notions are included.
