The Snowbound Hat from Melissa Mortenson is a sewing pattern for a quilted, lined, patchwork Santa Claus hat, and it’s an easy-to-follow way to get into the holiday spirit. The pattern includes three versions: a Quilted Hat, a Striped Patchwork Quilted Hat, and a Square Patchwork Quilted Hat, so you can make a whole set for the family from one pattern.
It comes in two sizes. The Medium is approximately 15" tall with a 25 1/2" interior circumference, and the Large is approximately 16" tall with a 26 1/2" interior circumference and should fit most adults. This is a printed paper pattern with paper templates included. It’s designed for light- and medium-weight cotton and cotton-blend fabrics, with quilting-weight cotton recommended, and it isn’t suitable for stretch fabrics.
The patchwork versions are a fun way to use holiday scraps, precut strips, or a favorite Christmas collection, and a fluffy faux fur brim like the ones on the cover gives the hat its cozy, classic Santa look. It’s also the pattern used in our Snowbound Quilted Santa Hat class, so you can sew along with us or make it on your own at home.
