Sunglow is the yellow-orange member of the Hexies family, a hand-dyed batik line by the Banyan Batiks Studio for Northcott. Like every Hexies colorway, it features hexagon shapes worked tone on tone, giving the fabric a geometric texture that stays subtle at a distance.
Yellow is tricky to get right in a quilt: too pale and it disappears, too bright and it takes over. A yellow-orange batik sits in a useful middle ground, adding warmth to sunflowers, stars, and sunrise or sunset color runs.
Try it in a warm color run alongside Hexies in Pumpkin and Raspberry, or as a cheerful accent in a quilt built mostly from blues such as Blue Bayou. Small cuts work well for appliqué centers, stars, and the bright corners of a scrappy block.
Banyan Batiks are handmade in Indonesia, where artisans apply wax and dye by hand, so color can shift slightly from bolt to bolt. Buy the yardage for a project together, and prewash before mixing with whites if you are unsure about dye release.
