Hickory Plum is a Hexies colorway from the Banyan Batiks Studio for Northcott. Like the rest of the line, it is a hand-dyed cotton batik covered in hexagon shapes worked tone on tone, so the pattern adds texture rather than contrast.
Plum shades are useful when a quilt needs richness without going to black or navy. A purple-toned batik can anchor the outer border, frame lighter blocks as sashing, or act as a darker value in a color run. In a quilt with lots of brights, a plum adds depth and keeps the palette from feeling too sugary.
Combine it with Hexies in Raspberry for a berry-toned pairing, or with Spring Green for a classic purple-and-green contrast often seen in garden and floral quilts. The hexagon motif also makes it a natural fit for English paper piecing and honeycomb layouts.
Banyan Batiks are handmade by artisans in Indonesia. This fabric is 100% cotton and 44/45" wide; expect small dye-lot differences between bolts and buy yardage for a single project together.
