Blue Bayou is a cool-toned colorway in Hexies, a hand-dyed batik line created by the Banyan Batiks Studio for Northcott. Every Hexies colorway uses the same hexagon motif worked tone on tone, which makes the line easy to mix across warm and cool colors in one quilt.
Blues are the backbone of many quilts, and a textured blue like this one keeps large areas interesting. Use it for a border, the background of a star block, or the outer rounds of a medallion, where a solid might look flat but a busy print would distract from the piecing.
The hexagon motif also suggests natural pairings: English paper pieced hexagons, honeycomb layouts, and modern geometric quilts. For a free starting point, the Banyan Batiks Studio’s Whirligigs pattern features the Hexies line and finishes at 61" x 81".
Banyan Batiks are hand-dyed by artisans in Indonesia, and the 100% cotton base is a standard 44/45" width. Expect minor variation from bolt to bolt, and prewash if you plan to mix this blue with whites or very light prints.
