Linen Buttercup is the boldest yellow in Garden Threads, the coordinating collection Shelley Cavanna designed for Benartex to go with Garden Dalliance. The warm golden ground is covered in fine, lighter crosshatching that imitates aida cloth, the evenweave fabric used for cross-stitch.
Shelley gave the Garden Dalliance palette pops of buttercup yellow and aubergine against its deep indigo grounds, and this print is that buttercup pop in a solid-reading fabric. Strong yellow draws the eye quickly, so it works best in planned, small doses: star centers, flower centers in appliqué, cornerstones, or a narrow inner border that brightens a quilt built on indigo and teal. For larger areas, Orange Blossom Buttercup offers a much paler yellow.
The Linen print also has its own project: Shelley’s Garden Dalliance Project Bag pattern from Cora’s Quilts has you cross-stitch directly onto it, then sew it into a 10" x 13" bag. Both collections were designed for the projects in her book, Garden Dalliance Sampler (C&T Publishing, 2026).
Off the quilt, Linen Buttercup brightens kitchen towels, potholders, spring table runners and garden tote linings.
