Wild Orange is one of the many colors in Banyan Shadows, a batik basics line by the Banyan Batiks Studio for Northcott. The fabric is 100% cotton with a mottled, stone-like texture that gives it more depth than a solid while still behaving like one in a quilt.
Orange is often the color quilters are missing when a project looks flat. A small amount in a block center, a narrow inner border, or a few scattered squares in a scrappy layout can warm up blues, greens, and grays considerably. Because the texture is allover rather than a defined print, you can cut and rotate pieces freely.
It also works in autumn and Halloween quilts, and as a bright binding on a quilt built around cool colors. Combine it with other Banyan Shadows colors, such as Red and Lime Light, for a cheerful scrappy mix with one consistent texture.
As with all hand-dyed batiks, expect slight variation between bolts and consider prewashing before combining it with light fabrics. Order the full amount you need for borders at one time.
