Dove is the soft gray colorway in Aura, QT Fabrics' collection of watercolor blender wide backs. It's 100% cotton at 108" wide, with a mottled watercolor texture in gray and white that gives the fabric gentle movement without a distinct print.
A light neutral backing suits modern quilts, low-volume quilts, and scrappy quilts with a lot of color on top, where a busy back would compete. Gray is also a practical middle ground for quilts that mix warm and cool colors. Keep in mind that light backings show darker quilting thread more clearly, so choose a thread that blends with the gray if you want the stitching to stay subtle.
With 108" of width, one length covers many quilt backs with far less piecing than standard yardage. Dove also works as a wide background fabric, as a border on a gray-and-white quilt, or as binding when you want a soft edge.
